The Luxury Subbing Hub produces four of the country’s most elegant and polished publications: Elle, Elle Decoration, Esquire and Harper’s Bazaar. The tight-knit and friendly team co-ordinates closely with all departments to ensure the high quality, accuracy and vibrant tone of these iconic brands.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As one of three Sub-editors on the Luxury Subbing Hub, you will sub-edit content for the four magazines, as well as proof-reading, second reading and signing-off pages. You will also assist the Deputy chief sub-editors and Chief sub-editor in overseeing the subbing and production process of all pages, from copy stage through to sending pages to press.
Key responsibilities:
1. Subbing raw copy and fitting layouts for all pages of ELLE, ELLE Decoration, Esquire and Harper’s Bazaar magazines.
2. Checking facts, spelling and grammar.
3. Composing compelling display copy in keeping with house styles.
4. Subbing any additional editorial or commercial content that arises during the production cycle.
5. Ensuring that pages meet the brands’ high standards in terms of tone and accuracy, upholding the brands’ unique voices and helping to evolve them.
6. Sending layouts for legal checks when necessary.
7. Flagging issues to the Chief sub-editor regarding copy or layouts.
8. Liaising with Marketing, Digital and Subscriptions departments over relevant pages to ensure they meet requirements.
9. Second-reading subbed layouts on proof.
10. Assisting with final reads, signing off pages and proofing.
11. Being an ambassador of Hearst UK and its values.
12. You may be required to undertake such further duties as your skills, qualifications and experience allow and/or as may be assigned to you from time to time.
ABOUT YOU
You should have great accuracy and attention to detail. You’ll be organised, calm under pressure and capable of handling several tasks at once. An excellent problem solver and team player with good initiative.
