100% small animal, single site practice in Carlisle, Cumbria
We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring vet to join our supportive team in our 100% small animal, single site practice.
Feedback from recent locum vets has been:
* Was a pleasure to be there and I learned so much from that experience.
* I have only positive feedback.
* The support I received there from all members of staff, and the care you provide for your clients is amazing and worth praising.
* I loved the cat care touches around the practice.
* I think you are probably one of the best practices I have been to in many years.
* Genuinely the nicest vets I've been to!
* I appreciated the great team bond, the help and the support you gave me and you gave to each other.
* I found the clients very nice, respectful and available to investigate when it was necessary.
* I appreciated you do many investigations in-house (which is a rare pearl in many places!).
* Great dental approach (X-rays and blocks are very good!).
* The nurse team is “favoloso” (in Italian)! Super knowledgeable and skilled, always on support and super fun!
* Amazing receptionists.
* I particularly enjoyed the communication part between everyone and the way to discuss cases in a professional way.
* Patients are treated super well.
Our Practice
An opportunity exists for you to join our lovely clinical team in a practice keen to keep key clinical skills in primary care practice, providing excellent care to our patients and clients. We run in-house healthcare plans which can provide both routine (preventative) and nonroutine (accident and illness) care for member animals. We want to maintain a team of veterinary surgeons who share our desire to collectively develop and maintain a broad range of medical and surgical skills within the practice. The usual diagnostic aids are available (digital x-ray - standard and dental, ultrasound, video-endoscope, in-house laboratory with biochemistry and haematology machines), all of which allow you to investigate your patient’s problems and guide the owner through the various medical and surgical options.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for a full-time and a part-time vet. We can consider a broad range of experience, as finding the right person is most important, though we are already supporting a new graduate, and so will only add a colleague with at least initial experience in practice. We’re looking for a compassionate, caring vet who is a good communicator and is keen to develop long-term relationships with our clients and their pets. You’ll need to be a team player but also able to act on your own judgement and make decisions when required.
The role
Our friendly team of vets are supported by five excellent RVNs together with an animal care assistant, SVNs and wonderful front of house colleagues. We have 15-minute appointments and are proud to be an RCVS and Gold Compassionate Understood accredited practice. We are also a Gold Standard Cat Friendly Clinic and are working towards being accredited by Investor in the Environment.
The out of hours rota is on a 1:4 basis, allowing a great work-life balance and giving you plenty of time to enjoy the nearby Lake District, which is just 15 miles away and the Scottish borders just 8 miles away. Yes, we do our own OOH work, but being a small practice this is not onerous and any work done is financially remunerated. We work a set rota with consistent days and duty nights, and a weekend every month, but we are all flexible about swapping if needed.
What we can offer in return
We are delighted to be part of the VetPartners group, who offer a generous CPD budget. We encourage and will fund further study to certificate level for the right candidate. We have two vets working towards certificates currently. Though we are presently keen to find a person who has at least gained confidence for sole charge consulting and routine operations, we’ll be keen to support your interests and further development, and work well as a team - to share and build on our knowledge.
Salary will be dependent on experience and upon hours worked but between £40,000 -£60,000 FTE including out of hours, with five weeks paid leave (plus bank holidays). RCVS fees & one veterinary subscription paid. Healthshield Policy and Pension with Legal and General.
