The role The role of Fibre Engineer, reporting to the Fibre Supervisor, is responsible for installation and servicing FTTP and client CPE across multiple clients. You are responsible for installing overhead and underground fibre, using both OR PIA and client specific network. Activities will include using ABF equipment, plant equipment, backfill and reinstatement within customer boundaries, ensuring all H&S standards are being adhered to and the quality standards being met as per the client specification.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Use and basic maintenance of a works tablet, fibre splicing machine, Power Meter, Fibre Identifier and Micro Scope
2. Splicing within loss limits
3. Installation of fibre passive as per the client specification ensuring quality is being adhered too
4. Reading and understanding the test results for troubleshooting purposes
5. Ensure company policies and procedures are followed
6. Follow the company Incident Reporting procedure, reporting any incidents and accidents immediately
7. Proactively address customer enquiries, resolve issues and obtain customer feedback
8. Provide support and guidance to Fibre Engineers to ensure timely and quality service
9. Support company teams in achievement of deadlines
10. Maintain positive and healthy relationship with various teams to ensure customer service effectiveness
11. Participate in training & upskilling of Fibre Engineers and be a role model for junior staff setting an example
12. Manage a project that delivers the objectives required to meet or exceed KPI targets
13. Provide direction to your project team – inclusive of sub-contractors
14. Ensure that the project is fully compliant with the local authority and statutory provisions for the administration of streetworks legislations
15. Determine the resource requirements for the completion of all works throughout the project term
16. Manage productivity, assign roles, tasks and responsibilities required for the successful completion of the project work in accordance with planning, specifications and requirements
17. Take ownership of the commercial aspects of the contract / project and ensure the project does not go into financial breach.
Qualifications, KNOWLEDGE, and skills required
18. Demonstrable experience with a proven track record working in a networking engineering environment
19. Advanced knowledge of FTTP and FTTH technologies
20. Working with optical transmission equipment
21. Sound ability to diagnose problems with existing equipment and fix faults up to resolution
22. Ability to communicate fluently with the customers and should possess good customer service skills
23. Ability to interpret technical issues through the non-technical description provided by their customers
24. Accreditations: SA001, SA002, S8, S7, IPAF 1b, NRSWA unit 2
25. Experience blowing fibre, splicing, backfill and reinstatement
26. Experience working on the Openreach network using PIAIOSHH / NEBOSH qualified (desirable)
27. Sound knowledge of all HSEQ regulations
28. Knowledge of contract documentation and specifications
