We are looking to appoint a Support Worker to Derbyshire Information and Advice service for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (DIASS). DIASS is a statutory service which is funded by the County Council but operates at arms-length to provide impartial information, advice and support to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their parents / carers.
The role entails being an effective communicator, working on the service advice line, and face to face work supporting parents / carers and their children and young people in discussions and negotiations with school, colleges and SEN practitioners. Successful applicants will need the ability to quickly absorb the necessary legal training and other policy background to be able to operate robustly and independently.
A background working in special educational needs will be an advantage as will experience in advocacy or advice work. The post is subject to a DBS check. The work base is Matlock with homeworking. The post holder may also be required to travel to other parts of the County.
