TeacherActive is looking for experienced Residential Support Workers to join our amazing supply team in Sheffield! Our client is a specialist education college that provides personalised support and learning to students aged 16-25-year-olds who have Autism, Learning Difficulties, Mental Health difficulties, and behaviour challenges.
Students reside in houses within Sheffield and the surrounding areas, living alongside their peers and staff. They will develop their independent living skills by actively participating in the daily management of the household, including tasks like meal planning, shopping, organising social activities, and household chores. Staff will collaborate closely with students, providing the necessary support to help them learn to live more independently and make safe, informed decisions.
This role is agency and shifts will be allocated depending on weekly availability. We have morning (8 am – 4 pm), afternoon (3:30 pm to 10 pm), and night shifts; both waking and sleep (9:30 pm to 8:30 am).
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Maintaining a high standard of care and support that addresses the physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and cultural needs of individuals
Ensuring each young person’s care plan is consistently followed and updated as needed to reflect their evolving needs
Building relationships that young people experience as positive, warm, and fulfilling
Creating a caring, supportive, and nurturing environment where children and young people feel safe and protected from harm
Offering emotional support during times of difficulty or stress
The ideal Residential Support Worker will need to:
Have previous experience within a Residential Support Work environment
Be patient and caring when providing all aspects of care
Be strong-willed and confident with challenging behaviour
Have experience in one-to-one support to encourage independence and raise self-esteem
Respect privacy and dignity at all times
Be flexible and adaptable
There is a range of shifts including AM (8:00 am-4:00 pm), PM (3:30 pm-10:00 pm), and night shifts (9:30 pm-8:30 am). This is a flexible position depending on worker availability.
