Job summary
In this role you will dispense medicines for patients. In addition, you will undertake related duties including ordering and receipt of stock, and be involved in the provision of an efficient and effective 'front of house' service for customers, including the sale of medicines.
Main duties of the job
Work effectively as a member of the outpatient pharmacy team.
Build effective relationships with colleagues - these colleagues will include:
o Patients
o Medical and nursing staff
o Pharmacy staff - both inpatient and outpatient
o GP staff
Provide patients, patients' representatives, healthcare staff and other people who visit or telephone the Outpatient Pharmacy with an efficient and co-operative service by responding directly to their needs or, if necessary, referring to appropriate member of staff.
When required by the Pharmacy Manager, maintain the Pharmacy Reception and Counter areas and provide an efficient and effective service for people attending the department, including members of the public and healthcare staff.
Sell 'Pharmacy only' and General Sale List medicines to patients under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, using appropriate questioning to ensure that the medicines are being used appropriately.
Ensure that prescription documentation is maintained and stored appropriately in accordance with the law, and policies and procedures.
Dispense medicines for outpatients and patients attending Accident & Emergency under the general direction of a pharmacy technician or pharmacist, including the supply of controlled drugs, ensuring maintenance of associated records, in accordance with standard operating procedures.
