A rare opportunity has been created to join a global organisation as an ESG Lawyer! The successful candidate will join the Public Policy and Corporate Responsibility Legal team and be based in Glasgow (with hybrid working that only requires 2 days/week in the office). You will work alongside colleagues who are based in London and also be part of the wider legal team in Glasgow.
The team provides legal support to those leading the organisation's sustainability strategies, such as its ambition to be net zero by 2050, and its commitment to align financing with the goals and timelines of the Paris Agreement. They also collaborate with other lawyers to provide support to the business as they capture opportunities to finance the transition to a low carbon economy.
Sustainability priority areas include: providing strategic legal input in relation to public sustainability policies and disclosures; delivering the Climate and Sustainability Report and Sustainability regulatory reporting; supporting relationships with shareholders and stakeholders, including at the AGM; supporting the Climate Risk team; tracking emerging Sustainability-related litigation and regulatory risk; reviewing their approach to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and associated risks; working on Biodiversity disclosures and ESG taxonomies; supporting the evolution of Sustainability governance, including the standards which support ESG products and services; and evolving their approach to human rights.
Applicants must be a qualified UK, US, EU or Commonwealth Lawyer (Solicitor, Attorney or equivalent) with at least 5-6 years of PQE who can demonstrate significant legal experience gained in-house or in a challenging private practice environment with subject matter expertise and/or significant interest and awareness in relation to the ESG, Sustainability and Climate Change agenda. Additional experience in financial services and regulatory law would also be beneficial.
You will be highly analytical and be able to use creative and innovative thinking to structure appropriate, sustainable solutions and must be able to work collaboratively with other teams in multiple locations. You must also be commercially astute but aware of regulatory issues, confident in advising on key risk issues and mitigants and helping the businesses to make decisions.
