Health, Safety and Environmental Manager
Location: Ipswich
Salary: £40k - £55k
A local foundry and precision machining company is now looking for a Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to join their team. This position is a varied one, covering all aspects of work within the company regarding Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE).
This is an operational role that will involve site audits and inspections along with control of all PPE/RPE issue and training, service scheduling, and calibration of all safety-critical equipment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Providing support to Supervisors and the Management team on all matters regarding H&S.
2. Providing support to Supervisors, Workforce, and Contractors on safe systems of work and preparing risk assessments and method statements.
3. Conducting risk assessments and recommending measures to mitigate environmental health risks.
4. Carrying out regular audits and weekly inspections of all company operations and reporting any failings.
5. Investigating accidents, incidents, and complaints.
6. Liaising with the Occupational Health Nurse on company medical matters.
7. Monitoring and maintaining the company-provided PPE, RPE, and safety equipment including ensuring all equipment is certified and fit for use.
8. Maintaining clear and concise documentation in all matters regarding this role.
9. Managing the company competence training matrix; ensuring personnel are trained within the predefined timescales.
10. Arranging refresher training when required through tracking in the training matrix and certification expiration dates.
11. Maintaining a continuous review of Company HS policies, procedures, forms, and Risk Assessment/Method Statements. Updating current and instigating new documents as required.
12. Attending and assisting in all disciplinary meetings as requested.
Key Experience/Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must come from a Manufacturing background as a Health and Safety Manager. You will also have the following skills, qualifications, and experience:
1. Hold a NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent in occupational health and safety.
2. Member of IOSH and working towards CMIOSH.
3. Ideally hold an environmental qualification such as IEMA or NEBOSH but not essential.
4. Ideally come from a heavy manufacturing, foundry, or castings background.
