Aspiring Youth Outreach Worker (Reading)
Are you a graduate passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Are you interested in helping teenagers make positive choices and avoid a life of crime? Do you aspire to become a Youth Outreach Worker and want hands-on experience supporting children with mental health needs?
A Specialist Provision in Reading is looking for a patient, proactive, and compassionate graduate to join their team as an SEMH Teaching Assistant. In this role, you will provide one-to-one support, assist in managing emotional well-being, and help create a positive learning environment for students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. This is the perfect opportunity if you are a graduate looking to build your experience in the mental health/youth sector.
The students you will be supporting have a range of complex mental health difficulties, including struggles when regulating their own emotions, low self-esteem, and attachment issues. You will help show the students the value of learning and education, as well as the benefits of positive decision-making and keeping themselves safe. You will also help implement intervention strategies influenced by Psychological and Criminological theory and improve their interpersonal skills to help them when they leave school in the future.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will gain invaluable experience supporting teenagers in need of emotional and behavioral support. You will work closely with the Mental Health professionals on site at the school to ensure every child is reaching their full potential and receive training in behavior management and safeguarding. You will also develop the skills and confidence required to work in Youth Outreach or Criminal Justice in the future, the perfect opportunity for a graduate.
The Reading School is looking for a graduate who is empathetic, resilient, and has excellent communication skills. An understanding of Psychology, Criminology, Social Work, or Education would be beneficial.
