The job itself
The Mobile Library Service is looking to recruit a proactive and outgoing team member to deliver its streamlined mobile library service from its headquarters at Melton.
You will need to demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation with a proven team working ability. We require staff that will embrace change in a positive manner and adopt a can do attitude.
As part of the team you will deliver a professional, high quality, customer focused mobile library and information service for local residents.
You will ensure that an appropriate and welcoming atmosphere is maintained at all times. You must be able to use your initiative and prioritise your workload whilst working to a consistently high standard, sometimes under pressure.
You should hold a valid LGV Class C Licence and CPC card. As part of the rota you will be expected to single staff the 5.5 ton mobile that will visit the smaller villages within the authority.
Regular tasks include:
1. Undertake daily compliance checks on the vehicle.
2. Driving a mobile library and maintaining the service to the published scheduled.
3. General safety of the public on and around the vehicle.
4. Front line counter duties including enquiry work using book based and on line resources. The issue/discharge and reservation of stock using the online/offline Library Management System.
5. Assisting the public to make full use of the mobile library service.
6. Contribution to and participation in activities & events for adults and children.
7. Shelving and the maintenance of stock and general day to day administration.
You must evidence:
8. Excellent customer care skills and a genuine enthusiasm for working with all age ranges and sectors of the public.
9. The ability to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction by responding to individual and diverse customer needs in a timely & sensitive manner.
The role can be physically demanding, especially when single staffing. You will be driving around the East Riding, assisting customers, moving library stock to and from shelves, restocking display area and loading/unloading of crates of library materials. Stock work is a key responsibility of this post.
