Physical Activities Coach (Fixed Term)

Could you make a difference the health and wellbeing of some of our older people in Dumfries & Galloway? As a Physical Activities Coach, you will support the planning, creation and delivery of our wider Active Communities physical activity programme. By delivering gentle activity classes and short strolls you will enhance the lives, improve the health and wellbeing, and independence of our local people. Many of these people will also have been referred to our Active Lives Pathway programme. You will create a warm, welcoming environment for people to attend classes to benefit their overall physical wellbeing but also boost their social and mental wellbeing.
Although a Level 1 SGB is preferred, equivalent training will be provided for the right candidates to deliver gentle movement via a Shibashi Level 1 qualification (25 & 26 January ), strength and balance group exercises, walk leader training and many more training and work shadowing opportunities appropriate to the post.
You should be able to communicate clearly with a wide variety of people, confidently lead group activity/sessions, promote health and safety guidelines, and have a genuine interest in active ageing for older people.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. From 28 February, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
Post funding is currently until March, however additional funding to sustain these positions for at least an additional 12 months will be confirmed in Dec .
This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
