Job summary
Laboratory Administrative and Clerical Officer A position has become available in the Cellular Pathology Department within the histology office. This role is at the center of our team and therefore we are looking for an enthusiastic and hard working individual who works well under pressure with an approachable, professional and can-do attitude at all times to meet the needs of the Department. You must have excellent communication, inter-personal and secretarial skills. Attention to detail is also an important aspect of the role. You must also have sound IT skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Outlook, and previous experience in updating databases. Previous experience in audio and copy typing along with knowledge of medical would be advantageous but not essential. You will be supporting the RBH and Wexham Pathologist teams. The post is full time - 5pm Monday to Friday. Participation in a 1 in 3 weekly early start rota would be required. From - 4pm.
Main duties of the job
Inputting of patient details and results results onto the laboratory computer system. Requests, tracks and dispatches patient records using hospital database. Receives sorts and distributes internal and external mail. Performs telephone duties that include making and receiving calls to and from the laboratory, transmitting confidential results and complex sensitive information to hospital clinicians, GPs, other healthcare professionals and external agencies in line with departmental policies. Generates computer reports and performs photocopying and filing duties of blocks and slides. Pull and collate patient information for MDT meetings for pathologist review. Demonstrates excellent personal communication and team working skills. Complies with the requirement to practice within data protection and confidentiality guidelines. Works to ensure that departmental performance targets are met by continually assessing priority of work. Attends departmental and Trust-wide staff meetings as appropriate.

This is a busy department, with a combined workload of around 55,000 for histology and 7,000 for Royal Berks and Wexham Park Hospitals, performing a wide range of Immunohistochemistry techniques and OSNA. We have full UKAS accreditation.
