About Us
Encompassing 12 district authority areas Lancashire County Council is the fourth largest local authority in England. Acting as both the Local Highway and Traffic Authority the County Council's Highways Service is responsible for maintaining the safe and effective use of its highway network. As part of that role the Highway Service examines in excess of 5000 planning applications annually.
Development approved through the planning process can result in the requirement for associated works to be constructed on the highway. Development also results in new streets being built that may be suitable for adoption as highway maintainable at public expense.
Highway Officers in the Development Control team manage the process of ensuring both the delivery of planning related highway works through Section 278 of the Highways Act and the adoption of new highway through Section 38 of the Highways Act.
The Role
The post holder will provide support to the area west Section 38/278 Team Leader and Assistant Engineer. The principal element of the role will involve undertaking site supervision of highway civil engineering works. Liaising with development site managers you will ensure highway works are delivered safely and to approved designs. As such the post is ideally suited to an individual from a highway maintenance, highway operational, civil engineering, or Section 38/278 background.
You will use your knowledge and skills to assist in the overall delivery of the Section 38/278 process, liaising with colleagues both internally and externally to ensure works are successfully constructed.
You will be working within a well-established, organised team where you will be supported and allowed to build on your existing knowledge and skills and actively encouraged to realise your full potential.
The posts will involve undertaking site visits and attending meetings. The successful applicant will be required to hold a valid driving licence and will be expected to have a motor vehicle available for use on official journeys (travel expenses paid).
The post is permanent and a full-time (37 hours per week) and will be based in Bamber Bridge predominantly covering the western districts of the County. The post is suitable for agile working.
