Role Overview:
As an Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial viability of our projects, working closely with the Estimating team to provide accurate pre-tender estimates, maintain asset cost capture processes, and contribute to scheme benchmarking. This role is ideal for a Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their career as an Estimator, and it offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects that make a real impact.
Your expertise in cost estimation will help secure profitable contracts and ensure projects are delivered within budget, while also contributing to risk assessments, benchmarking, and portfolio optimisation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Prepare accurate project cost estimates through thorough analysis and scope assessment.
2. Review scope documents for inconsistencies or missing information, ensuring accurate cost predictions.
3. Assist in developing costs from contractors and reviewing target cost versus final account accuracy.
4. Support the lesson-learned process for future target cost setting.
5. Collaborate with the wider Estimating team on improving database costing and identifying strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for process improvements.
6. Prepare cost comparison reports to ensure projects demonstrate value for money.
7. Maintain detailed project estimate records and related documentation for reference and audit purposes.
8. Provide embedded carbon values to support ongoing business reporting requirements to Ofwat.
9. Stay informed of industry trends, best practices, and advancements in estimation techniques to improve accuracy and efficiency.
What We’re Looking For:
10. Commercial & Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial and commercial principles, ensuring projects meet budgetary constraints.
11. Experience: Previous experience estimating within the construction or utility industry.
12. Technical Mindset: Ability to read and interpret technical data, and clearly communicate this information to stakeholders.
13. Analytical Skills: High attention to detail with the ability to provide accurate and thorough data analysis.
14. Organisation: Results-oriented, self-sufficient, and capable of meeting deadlines efficiently.
Desirable Skills:
15. Membership or working towards membership in a relevant professional body.
16. Knowledge of various estimating strategies and techniques.
17. Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills.
18. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
