Job summary
Never has there been a more exciting and challenging time to join the NHS and if you have the desire for a career in NHS leadership, hold a minimum 2:2 degree level qualification (awarded by July 2025) and can apply your passion, curiosity, drive and determination to make a difference then we are interested in you!
The NHS Wales Financial Management Graduate Scheme offers you the opportunity to work across the breadth of the finance function giving you a host of valuable and varied experiences in areas such as financial management, business partnering and financial planning.
The scheme will stretch you and give you the opportunity to develop your financial management and leadership skills whilst studying for a professional accountancy qualification (ACCA). Designed to develop the next generation of finance leaders you will work in complex, challenging environments in partnership with clinicians and other professionals.
Trainees will be supported through formal activities, opportunistic events and be guided by their Graduate Lead. It is expected that the level of responsibility and degree of difficulty / complexity of the work required from trainees will increase over the duration of the programme.
This is a fixed term 3 year post with the possible extension of a further 10 months dependent on meeting certain conditions.
Main duties of the job
If successful, you will be appointed to a finance role in one of our NHS Wales organisations for the duration of the scheme commencing September 2025. For 2025 cohort we expect to have vacancies in the North, West and South of Wales.
As learning is best achieved through putting theory into practice it will be no surprise that the vast majority of time will be based within the finance department of your employing organisation. There you will rotate through a number of placements to gain experience and a solid grounding in all aspects of NHS finance. In addition, there are some centrally provided placements on core financial services such as accounts payable and payroll, provided centrally by the Shared Services Partnership. There are also placements in other NHS Wales organisations to broaden your experience in year 2 and year 3
You will study for an accredited professional accountancy qualification (ACCA) over 3 years and will be expected to achieve this qualification in order to graduate from the scheme. You can expect first class training and mentor support and a generous study package.
