We have a fantastic opportunity at HMP Durham to join the Novus education team as our Construction Trainer on a permanent, part-time basis working 22.2 hours a week.
The Role
We are recruiting for a Multi-Skills Construction Trainer, or a Qualified Construction Tradesperson. You will deliver practical training in various construction trades, including Painting & Decorating, Plumbing, Joinery, and Bricklaying. Working with a group of up to 15 learners, your role will involve engaging and motivating individuals to develop their skills, knowledge, and confidence in the construction field.
Responsibilities
1. Deliver high-quality, hands-on training sessions in multiple construction trades.
2. Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
3. Assess learner needs and develop individualised learning plans.
4. Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
5. Support learners in achieving their learning aims.
6. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes for all learners.
7. Stay up to date with curriculum changes and best practices in functional skills education.
What we need from you
To be successful in the Trainer role, you will need:
1. Experience working within any one or more of the following construction fields:
2. P&D
3. Bricklaying
4. Joinery
5. Have at least 2 years' experience in the relevant vocational area.
6. Willing to gain Award in Education within 6 months.
7. Willing to gain the TAQA assessment qualification within probation.
8. Commitment to gain a subject-specific qualification to allow them to train to Level 3, within 2 years.
9. Commitment to gain an assessor award required by relevant Awarding Bodies, within one year.
10. Hold at least a Level 1 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy or be willing to commit to gaining the qualification(s) within 1 year.
