Obstetric & Gynaecology Consultant
Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Dorset County NHS Foundation Trust with special interest in Maternal Medicine. This post will include participation in the Obstetric non-resident on call service and clinical sessions to complement the needs of the Department.
This post is offered on the 2003 Consultant contract terms and conditions of service. The successful candidate will join our existing team of 8 consultants. This is a full-time position with 10 programmed activities with an on-call commitment of 1:8.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide clinical expertise and responsibility to the service in terms of knowledge, clinical activity and guidance as needed.
2. Take part in the 1 in 7 consultant on-call rota and conduct post-take consultant ward rounds.
3. Clinical and administrative responsibility for the proper functioning of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department.
4. Supervision of the junior medical staff in the Unit who will have the opportunity to learn on a one-to-one basis on both formal and informal rounds and also on an ad hoc basis throughout the day.
5. Ensure a high level of efficiency and effectiveness in the provision of patient care.
6. Fulfil continuing professional development requirements in line with clinical governance.
7. Participate in audit and other areas of Directorate responsibility.
8. Assist the department in meeting government targets, and take an active part in further development of the service.
9. Attend and actively participate in monthly department and education meetings.
Person specification
Education, Qualifications & Training
* Full GMC Registration Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via; CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESAR or European Community Rights.
* An appropriate higher surgical/medical qualification (MRCOG or equivalent).
* Urogynaecology specialisation (completion of formal Urogynaecology subspecialty training e.g. ATSM/SITM/Master/Etc.).
Experience & Knowledge
* At least 4 years obstetrics and gynaecology experience.
* Experience demonstrating potential ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant.
Current Skills & Abilities
* Willingness and ability to fulfil the general service elements of the job description.
* Evidence of the clinical skills required to fulfil the specialty and sub-specialty elements of the post as in the job description and technical specification.
