Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Locum Consultant Haematologist to join our team. This is a 6 PA post based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust (RSFT to cover parental leave for approximately 12 months from November 2024). We expect there willbe opportunities to apply for substantive posts in the department in the near future.
As we are a large District general Hospital, as well as a cancer centre, the post will cover a wide range of Haematology including General and Haemato-oncology. The hospital has an Oncology ward with a dedicated junior doctor team and busy Haemato oncology clinics.
Main duties of the job
The clinical part of the role includes all areas of Haematology and includes general and haemato-oncology clinics. A clinical leadership role within the department will be expected and negotiated between the team and the successful applicant.
Key Activities:
1. To participate in the provision of clinical and laboratory haematology services.
2. To maintain the highest clinical standards in the diagnosis and management of patients with haematological disorders.
3. To participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.
4. To participate in continuing medical education.
5. To teach and train junior medical staff, medical students, nursing staff and biomedical scientists, other clinical staff, pharmacists
6. To participate in clinical research trials. To undertake teaching duties as required and, in particular, to take an active part in the education programme of trainee medical staff and medical students.
7. To contribute and support departmental meetings.

The Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Guildford provides high quality cancer services and is a busy district general hospital with an accident and emergency department and full general medical and surgical teams.
The Haematology team deliver level 2b care, including intensive chemotherapy for AML, salvage treatment for high grade lymphoma and intensive treatment for primary CNS lymphoma. We work closely with colleagues at Ashford and St Peters Hospital and share a level 2 in-patient service based at the RSFT. There is a 1:10 combined ward attending and out of hours on-call rota. Care is delivered by a team of committed and highly skilled staff including 6 Haematologists, 3 Clinical nurse specialists, 2 Haematology Registrars and Designated Junior Doctors at the RSFT and 4 further Consultant Colleagues from Ashford and St Peters Hospital.

Qualifications
Essential
1. Full registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC)
2. MBBS or equivalent
3. Higher medical qualification
4. FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent qualification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
5. Fully trained Specialist in chosen field
6. Relevant experience of management of Haematological emergencies
7. Broad Haematology experience
