Weston Hospicecare provides specialist care for local people who are living with life-limiting illnesses. A much loved and well supported local charity, the hospice is based in Uphill, a quiet village on the outskirts of Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated professional to lead our Catering team. You will lead and manage the catering service for the hospice; this will involve kitchen management and the provision of nutritionally balanced meals for patients, staff and visitors, this will involve discussing patients dietary needs with patients and clinical staff as required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of our catering service including kitchen management
Menu development to include planning innovative menus within a specified budget
The postholder is expected to be hands on in the kitchen preparing, cooking / serving meals, and be involved in cleaning after each service,
Manage the delivery of fresh, high quality nutritional meals and refreshments for patients, staff and visitors
Have financial responsibility for the delivery of the catering food and labour budgets
Manage supplier relationships and negotiate terms in conjunction with the Head of Estates and Facilities
Be responsible for Food Safety, Health & Safety and other legislative/regulatory policies
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum of 5 years experience of cooking
Diploma in Catering Management or equivalent
City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ Level 3
Possess a passion for delivering great home cooked food, with a desire to work with the freshest, best ingredients & within budget
Good understanding of the Food Safety Act, Allergen Management, COSHH & Health & Safety
Ability to work within a team
Build relationships with suppliers
Staff management experience
Excellent communication skills with a cheerful and positive character
Flexible and able to adapt with changing patient needs with a go the extra mile mindset
