Manpower is recruiting Relief Porters to work for our public sector client on a temporary basis.
Location: Merthyr Tydfil
Job type: Temporary, duration 3 months minimum.
Working hours:
This is a relief position offering approximately 22.5 hours per week. You will be required to work 8 hour shift across Monday to Sunday. Shift times are 6 am - 2 pm, 2 pm - 10 pm and 10 pm - 6 am. Full flexibility is required.

The Role
As a Porter, you will provide essential services including waste management, transport, mail handling, and support to cleaning services. You will help deliver high-quality healthcare by meeting operational and legislative standards.
Your role will support the Facilities Unit's commitment to maintaining quality service and support the Porter Services Supervisor and Team Leader in delivering services that meet the needs of patients, staff, and visitors.
Main Responsibilities
Communicate with facility staff, emergency services, external agencies, and visitors as required.
Respond to internal emergency calls following relevant policies and guidelines.
Act as the first point of contact for patients and visitors addressing general inquiries.
Attend staff meetings and training sessions to maintain competency and comply with requirements.
Calm distressed or violent individuals when necessary.
Regularly update the Porter Services Supervisor on service issues and developments.
Use communication devices (e.g., radios, phones)
Represent porter services in a professional, friendly, and efficient manner.Knowledge, Training, and Experience
Knowledge of health and safety, risk assessments, COSHH, and manual handling guidelines.
Good general education and ability to maintain written records (e.g., incident log, porter management systems).
Strong customer service skills with NVQ level 2 or equivalent experience.
Complete induction and core competency training, including manual handling, fire safety, and handling clinical specimens.
Skills
Make straightforward judgments when responding to requests.
Handle basic complaints, escalating to supervisors when necessary.
Solve problems and prioritise tasks, using initiative when required.
Perform various tasks like mail deliveries, transporting medical supplies, and waste disposal.
Safely use equipment such as wheelchairs, bed transfers, and floor cleaning machines.
Patient Care
Direct patient contact, providing services in a caring, professional manner.
Assist with moving patients, medical equipment and clinical supplies.
Report incidents, including fire, theft, or property damage.
Support hospital transfers between sites, ensuring safety and comfort.
Financial and Physical Resources
Ensure equipment is clean, maintained, and ready for use at the start of each shift.
Report defective equipment or building issues to supervisors and Facilities/Estates.What we offer you
