The job itself
Personal assistant required to support a young man, aged 19, with Autism. Support needed with independence, gaining confidence, and socialising in and around the local community. Hours are 8 hours per week term time (weekends) and 14 hours per week school holidays (weekdays). Days and times to be agreed.
The young man enjoys swimming and going out to shopping centres. He does not like loud noises or being touched without warning so the successful candidate will have the opportunity to build a strong and meaningful relationship and help this happy young man grow.
The young man needs guidance and support with his personal care and someone that has an understanding of Autism. The successful candidate would be supported by a kind and loving family.
We are seeking applicants who are friendly, flexible, patient and caring with a good sense of humour. We are seeking someone who has similar interests and enjoys going out in the community. The candidate must be able to use their own initiative whilst also ensuring that an environment for maximising independence is maintained. The candidate must be able to be sensitive to the needs of the young man, promoting privacy and dignity. It is crucial that the candidate can encourage and enable full participation in positive and meaningful activities that are enjoyed.
Car driver with own vehicle with business use is Preferrable.
DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post – Cost to be met by the local authority.
