Virginia Tax is seeking to hire multiple Tax Auditors in the Central Virginia area to conduct audits on businesses to determine their compliance with Virginia state tax laws. The emphasis will be on Virginia Sales and Use Tax.
Prior to applying for this position, please note this position is home-based and candidates must currently reside in one of the following Central Virginia areas:
Counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Charles City, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Fluvanna, Halifax, Hanover, Henrico, Goochland, Mecklenburg, New Kent, Nottoway, Powhatan, Prince George, Pittsylvania
Cities of Charlottesville, Colonial Heights, Danville, Hopewell, Petersburg, Richmond
*No relocation costs are covered
Local daily travel is required to the taxpayer’s business location. Daily travel expenses and any overnight travel expenses are covered by Virginia Tax.
The Auditor, using generally accepted auditing standards, reviews taxpayer and business records and other source documents needed to determine if the taxpayer is compliant with the tax laws of Virginia. The Auditor also develops audits and assessments, educates taxpayers, and ensures the collection and remittance of payments are the appropriate amount of tax due to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The anticipated starting annual salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must currently reside in one of the following Central Virginia areas:
Counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Charles City, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Fluvanna, Halifax, Hanover, Henrico, Goochland, Mecklenburg, New Kent, Nottoway, Powhatan, Prince George, Pittsylvania
Cities of Charlottesville, Colonial Heights, Danville, Hopewell, Petersburg, Richmond
• Accounting and/or auditing experience in a professional work environment
• Ability to proficiently use a windows-based computer to create, compile, manipulate, transmit, and analyze electronic data including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and provide your own transportation. Ability to travel during the day and, occasionally, overnight.
• Must have a safe and private work area/room/office at home to work including a locking file cabinet and high-speed Internet service. (Must meet Internet Speed Test - see Special Instructions to Applicants)
• Experience working remotely from home, as well as on-site at business locations.
