Our client is seeking a civil engineer to join their growing consultancy, complementing the structural team and establishing the civil team in its early stages to expand its capacity for commercial, domestic, and industrial engineering solutions. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in growing the team while receiving support and guidance from the company Director.
The company is located in Attleborough (Norfolk) between Thetford and Norwich on the A11 corridor, making it convenient for commuting and offering hybrid and flexible working options to maintain a good balance between personal and work life.
We are searching for an experienced, motivated engineer looking for their next challenge. The ideal candidate should be able to take a leading role on projects with a growing client base, delivering projects across the East of England and nationally. The workload is varied, as we conduct structural surveys, inspections, due diligence, and alterations to existing buildings.
We work closely with our clients to ensure they receive excellent service, while maintaining high communication standards and providing training to our staff to meet industry demands.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Reporting to the Company Director as needed;
2. Conducting detailed design calculations according to current Eurocodes;
3. Managing the delivery of design for a portfolio of projects and assets;
4. Coordinating detailed design drawings and preparing specifications for tender and construction purposes;
5. Assisting in delivering high-quality solutions across various sectors for clients and project stakeholders;
6. Assisting in managing all the team's projects, resources, and making key commercial decisions on fee spend to accommodate a wide range of projects;
7. Collaborating with design teams both within the company and externally to deliver civil design solutions within agreed timescales and budgets;
8. Undertaking technical and feasibility studies, including site investigations;
9. Using a range of computer software to develop detailed designs;
10. Performing complex calculations;
11. Interacting with clients and various professionals, including architects and subcontractors;
12. Compiling job specifications and supervising tendering procedures;
13. Resolving design and development issues;
14. Managing budgets and project resources;
15. Scheduling material and equipment purchases and deliveries;
16. Ensuring that projects comply with legal requirements, especially in terms of health and safety;
17. Assessing the sustainability and environmental impact of projects;
18. Ensuring projects run smoothly and that structures are completed within budget and on time.
Experience and Skills Required
1. Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken in English;
2. Possession of a current UK driving licence;
3. Essential experience in civil engineering design of infrastructure and drainage;
4. Some desirable experience in structural design with core materials such as concrete, steel, masonry, and timber;
5. High level of proficiency with AutoCAD, including experience with Civils3D;
6. Experience with modelling packages such as Tekla Tedds & Structural Designer, and Masterseries would be beneficial;
7. Ability to work independently and seek assistance when needed;
8. Ability to organise and prioritise workload to meet timescales and budgets;
9. Taking responsibility for personal development;
10. Projecting a professional image to clients and colleagues;
11. Demonstrating integrity;
12. Working collaboratively to build strong working relationships with colleagues and clients;
13. Willingness to learn new processes and software, as well as take on additional tasks when needed.
