About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Manager to join our Research Programmes Directorate. As a Research Manager, you will play a key role in driving the strategic development and delivery of both NIHR and non-NIHR research funding programmes, contributing to reducing health inequalities and reconfiguring the health, social care, and public health systems.
Key responsibilities
1. Research and articulate potential research investment opportunities
2. Advise potential applicants
3. Revise application forms and guidance documents
4. Review applications for funding
5. Coordinate and manage the peer review process
6. Oversee funding committees
7. Provide feedback to successful and unsuccessful applicants
8. Undertake due diligence of proposals based on critical assessment of healthcare-related projects
9. Negotiate funding agreements for projects recommended for funding
10. Manage a portfolio of funded projects
11. Regularly communicate and collaborate with individuals both within and outside the organization.

Requirements
12. A degree in biomedical, health, or social sciences, or equivalent experience in the field
13. Strong ability to communicate effectively and experience in building relationships with various individuals and teams.
14. Track record in successful project and programme management
15. Ability to think strategically
16. Excellent writing and attention to detail
17. Excellent planning and organisational skills
18. Analytical and complex problem-solving skills
19. Strong communication skills and customer focus
20. Committed team player
21. Experience in a research management environment
22. Preferred: PhD in a medical, scientific, technical, or social field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
23. Desirable: Knowledge of the UK's health and care research landscape
