Our 3-year Plate Welding Apprenticeship gives you a unique opportunity to help make nuclear energy safer and faster while giving you the skills you need to become a certified welder.
About the programme
As a Plate Welding Apprentice, you’ll be at the forefront of constructing vital infrastructure. Under the guidance of experienced mentors, you’ll learn the intricacies of plate welding, working with materials such as carbon and stainless steels to fabricate brackets and supports. The programme combines practical training with classroom learning, giving you experience working with a variety of welding processes and equipment, and honing your hand-eye coordination skills.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll develop expertise not only in plate welding but also in crucial areas such as health and safety, risk management, and working in potentially hazardous environments.

At Cavendish Nuclear, we're dedicated to innovating nuclear technologies and your contributions will directly impact projects across the nuclear energy life-cycle, from design and construction to decommissioning and waste management.
Your education/training
You’ll receive your training through Cavendish Nuclear on-site at Hinkley Point C in Bridgwater and at either Bridgwater and Taunton College or Train4All in Somerton. The combination of real-world experience and classroom learning will help you to achieve your Level 3 Plate Welder Apprenticeship.
What you’ll need
• A genuine interest in engineering and welding.
• At least five GCSEs at grades 4(C) and above including Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2 English & Maths).
• Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. Further details are available at. For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.
