Main duties of the job
To lead a team of nurses in the absence of the ward sister, taking on a role that requires you to think on your feet. The Children's ward can be busy at times and is the only ward within the Horton Hospital. You may be expected at times to go to ED and support the sick child if staffing allows. We are part of CHOX but vulnerable by the essence of the geography and we look after children from day one to years. We look after different specialities and offer a day surgery service.
The ward also has ward attenders and children on open access and we offer shared care with Kamrans ward for supportive care.
You will be expected to achieve the APLS course if you have not already done this as at times you may be the only children's qualified nurse in the hospital. We do intubate and ventilate children on the ward and they would then be retrieved by SORT.
We are a friendly team and offer development and access to various courses which we encourage and support. We have a CE on the ward also to help with the development.
