An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Town Planner to join a growing team within a dynamic, forward-thinking housebuilding company. As part of a strategic land team, you will help deliver key development projects and shape the planning process for several significant sites across the north of England and southern Scotland.
With an ambitious growth plan, the company is looking to bring forward at least 60% of homes from strategic sites. This is a key role that will contribute to advancing the planning promotion of the strategic land portfolio, working collaboratively with senior planners and internal teams to achieve development goals.
The Position:
As a Strategic Planner, you will work closely with the Senior Strategic Planning Manager to prepare and implement planning strategies for the company's current and future portfolio sites. The role will involve preparing planning applications, promoting land through Local Plans, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure successful site delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with the Senior Strategic Planning Manager to develop and implement planning strategies for portfolio sites
2. Lead the preparation and submission of planning applications for strategic land sites
3. Promote land through the Local Plan process and manage site promotion strategies
4. Coordinate with stakeholders (local authorities, consultants, landowners) to move planning applications forward
5. Conduct research and provide analysis to support the strategic land planning process
6. Travel for site visits and attend meetings across the north of England and southern Scotland as required
Essential Criteria:
1. At least 2 years of planning experience in housing (within housebuilding, consultancy, land promotion, or local authority)
2. A degree accredited by the RTPI (or equivalent) in planning or a related field within the built environment
3. Strong problem-solving, research, and analytical skills
4. A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a positive, can-do attitude
5. Willingness to travel to various sites across the north of England and southern Scotland
6. RTPI accreditation is desirable, with mentoring available to support the APC process
