An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professional and enthusiastic Community Energy Project Manager to join our Customer Services Directorate.

Community energy is a critical part of the transition to the smart, net zero energy system of the future. Building on the support we already provide in our communities, Northern Powergrid is excited to be setting up a brand new Community Energy Team. We have ambitious plans as part of our current price control period, which runs until 2028, to deliver targeted support in communities and make the energy transition fair.
Our Community Energy Team will provide targeted support to community energy groups and projects across our region, helping them to unlock the maximum benefits for their communities. They will also identify our most vulnerable communities and reach out to help them access the benefits community energy projects and other forms of support can bring. All this will help us to ensure that we are driving a just transition to net zero.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented individual to help us drive forward on these plans. We are looking for someone with a creative outlook who can shape our new Community Energy Team to deliver tangible outcomes for communities and drive forwards our support for new projects.
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for community-led energy projects and a sound understanding of the impact the energy transition will have on vulnerable customers and communities. They will lead our new team to deliver interventions, respond to our stakeholders’ needs and become an integral part of our strategy for supporting our communities.
You would be joining the Vulnerability team in the Customer Services Directorate, who are passionate about what they do. They are a motivated and committed team who want to do the best by our customers, treat everybody fairly and always strive to deliver industry leading 10/10 services.

Key responsibilities:
• Develop and manage the community energy programme, including developing a blueprint for addressing communities’ needs, monitoring programme outputs and improving the programme based on customer feedback and analytics
• Develop and maintain a network of partnerships with relevant community energy stakeholders, monitor their feedback and integrate it into our community energy programme
• Use data and analytics to establish a balanced programme incorporating outreach to our most vulnerable communities as well as support and advice to incoming community energy schemes
• Oversee support provided to grassroots community energy schemes where Northern Powergrid is a key enabler
• Oversee outreach to communities most at risk of being left behind in the energy transition and facilitate wide-ranging targeted support
• Gather intelligence about local and national funding schemes for decarbonisation initiatives and support communities to access these
• Collaborate with Northern Powergrid’s Regional Insights Team to provide the bridging function between technical network development and community need
• Connect community organisations with the skills and expertise of NPg colleagues, to support and progress their own decarbonisation plans
• Hold responsibility for Northern Powergrid’s position on community energy policy and practice, influencing the wider sector where relevant and appropriate
What qualifications and experience should you have?
• Full UK driving licence
• Strong communication skills and experience of working with a range of stakeholders as well as directly with customers
• Demonstrable programme and/or project management skills
• Sound knowledge of energy policy and experience working within the energy sector/energy advice/community energy
• Experience of leading a team to deliver collective targets
• Experience of building and managing community-level partnerships
• Proactive and problem-solving approach to strategic challenges
• Good IT skills
Desirable qualifications and experience:
• Analytical skills and/or experience of programme development in line with evaluation and feedback
• Understanding of social value calculations and familiarity with social return on investment
• Experience of working with vulnerable customers and/or service users
• Previous leadership experience managing energy advice and/or community energy programmes
• Certified Retrofit Assessment qualification
