Senior Aircraft Engineer – Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary
Thales is looking for a Sr Aircraft Engineer – Mechanical Engineer who will perform aircraft installation engineering and participates in the design, development, and integration of aircraft In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity Systems and components through engineering analysis, research and design. Specifically, the engineer will be responsible for monument design, development, and qualification.
In this position, the Engineer supports Type Certificate (TC) or Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) program developments and installations, as well as provides sustaining engineering to airline Customers. The Engineer will provide oversight of outside engineering companies assisting in the development of system design and aircraft integration of Thales In-Flight Entertainment systems.
Key Areas of Responsibility
1. Design Engineering: Generate engineering modeling, fabrication drawing, assembly drawing, and other required documentation for parts and assemblies using appropriate CAD tools. Provides structural analyses for current and future modifications dependent on discipline. Develop STC amendment design data related to reconfigurations, system upgrades, layout passenger arrangement changes and equipment design evolution for existing operators of the Thales InFlyt Experience IFE System or in support of new operators.
2. Installation/Integration Engineering Design: Develop engineering design and processes for installing Thales InFlyt Experience products onto a variety of airframes. Is responsible for the overall design of the monument and its installation on the aircraft. Generate installation drawings and other required documentation in support of Thales InFlyt Experience product integration using appropriate CAD tools.
3. Program/Project Functions: May support multiple programs simultaneously. May be Technical program focal. Ensure customer technical requirements are met for the integration of IFEC equipment on multiple aircraft platforms
4. System Engineering: Has and continues to gain a working knowledge of the complete Thales IFE System in order to triage problems or customer requests. Has and continues to gain a working knowledge of other systems integrating to the Thales IFE System (OEM systems, third party connectivity system, etc.).
5. Communication: Participates to the development of a monthly system reliability reports and presentations. Presents ideas effectively to internal personnel. Can internally justify or explain the rationale for a process or technical change. Can communicate with external parties (Airline Customers and OEMs). Can communicate the following to internal and external parties as it pertains to Aircraft Engineering deliverables: system requirements, schedule, changes to product/design, and installation design.
Minimum Qualifications
6. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Aeronautics Engineering, or related discipline.
7. Minimum 5 years of experience working with aircraft Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) documentation, and an understanding of aircraft structures. Minimum 5 years of Aircraft Rack/Monument design, development, and qualification experience
8. Working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles: stress, airflow, flam, sheet metal, machining, extrusion, and finishes. Working knowledge of Boeing D6-36440. Working knowledge of Airbus ABD0100 (Part 0, 1, 2, 3) and various Airbus Frame Specs. Working knowledge of DO-160, AC 21-49, FAR 25.
9. Experience using 2D and 3D CAD required.
10. Proven ability to comprehend functional operation, analyze problems using logical deduction and empirical evaluations and identify root cause and corrective actions. Experience in initiating and completing product changes using a product life cycle management system.
11. This position requires the COVID-19 vaccination. All successful candidates for this role will be required to submit proof of vaccination or submit a request for a vaccine exemption within 60 days of their start date.
Special Position Requirements
12. Schedule: Core business hour Monday to Friday. Hybrid remote work with a minimum of 2 days in the office may be possible and need to be agreed with manager.
13. Travel: Anticipated travel estimated at as much as 25% annually.
14. Physical Environment: Require access to production area. Small weight might be carried, up to 10lbs.

What We Offer
The anticipated TTC range for this role is $70,509.60 – 130,946.40 USD Annual. The Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s status protected by local, state, or federal law.
