This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for someone to join our team of admin and clerical staff working within the Day Surgery Units and the Surgical Admissions Lounge and to be the welcoming face of Theatres at Dorset County Hospital.
Day Surgery is looking for someone with relevant and up to date PAS experience as well as knowledge of booking appointments. This is a full time post, previous applicants need not apply.
This is a permanent position both at the Dorset County Hospital and Weymouth Community sites.
The Dorchester Day Surgery Unit has 2 theatres, adjacent ward areas and recovery area in Dorset County Hospital. In addition, there is a satellite unit in Weymouth comprising of one theatre and adjacent ward area with a separate recovery area, an Eye Day Case Ward area in the East wing section of the Hospital. The Surgical Admissions Lounge is the first port of call for patients coming to Main Theatres which consists of 8 Theatres, 4 in the North Wing Section of the Hospital as well as 34 Theatres in the East Wing section.
The departments undertake a wide range of both day case and inpatient surgery on a daily basis.
Main duties of the job
Main tasks and responsibilities will be to collate, order and process patient records using hospital computer systems, provide support to patients, with a personal approach in the reception areas. The post holder will also be required to provide admin support to the nurses on the ward when required.
Applications would be welcomed with from individuals with IT/clerical skills or the willingness to develop these. Full in-house training and support will be given to the successful candidate.
The post is full time hours with flexibility being key to cover all areas within the Day Surgery Unit and Surgical Admissions lounge.

Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent in English and Maths
Desirable criteria
* Level 3 NVQ in Administration or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
* Previous experience within a clerical capacity in a Health Care setting
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Clerical experience within the last 3 years
* Experience of working with computer systems
* Evidence of ability to communicate with all levels of staff and members of the general public
* Evidence of ability to work on own initiative but also part of a team
* Evidence of ability to respond to quickly changing priorities and organising and prioritising own workload to meet deadlines
* Evidence of ability to share knowledge and skills with new members of the team and provide support on a daily basis
* An understanding of the meaning of confidentiality and the requirement for this to be maintained
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of PAS system, Booked Admissions or other database system
