The Engineering Manager role will form a key part of the Central Engineering & Capital Projects Team and will be responsible for the management of engineering activities on a range of projects within the Central ECP portfolio. The Engineering Manager will be assigned to a specific project or projects within the portfolio and, working closely with the respective Project Manager(s), will have functional responsibilities for managing a small, multi-disciplinary engineering internal team and managing the engineering design of external parties to ensure all design and engineering activities on the project(s) are effectively and efficiently undertaken.
The Engineering Manager will provide oversight and direction of all engineering execution activities, including safety in design, design standards, and ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards. The incumbent will coordinate, lead, and progress all engineering activities, including front-end design, detailed design, and execution. This will be done with in-house resources as well as through consultants and contractors appointed to conduct design and construction for capital projects.

Your responsibilities:
1. Accountable for the delivery performance of design and engineering projects in a complex, regulated industry.
2. Ensure effective technical coordination with EPCM contractors, internal teams, and third-party representatives, and lead engineering problem-solving.
3. Conduct studies to determine requirements for new or modified facilities, equipment, and systems, and ensure relevant specification documents are prepared.
4. Serve as a single point of contact for all engineering issues and lead technical dialogue with external parties, including collaboration with Procurement and Commercial Management.
5. Engage with key functions (Operations, Quality, Supply Chain) to meet design expectations, and manage design change control and hazard study items.
6. Identify and manage risks and opportunities affecting schedule, cost, performance, or quality, and promote a positive safety culture through timely Health & Safety risk assessments.
Requirements for the role:
7. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, with an advanced degree preferred, and membership in a recognized engineering institution.
8. At least 5 years’ experience managing and leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team through the full project lifecycle.
9. At least 5-10 years’ experience as lead engineer in Front End and Detail Engineering on batch chemical or primary pharmaceutical projects valued at £5-60M+.
10. Proven knowledge and experience in delivering complex large engineering scopes in multi-stakeholder brownfield sites with continuously operated process facilities.
11. Leadership experience with a strategic mindset, business acumen, and demonstrated experience in high hazard, highly regulated industries.
12. Inspirational safety leader with significant safety improvement experience, and a delivery-focused self-starter with a track record of achieving goals under pressure.
