Manpower UK Print & Packaging Division are excited to be recruiting for Converting Operatives based on our clients Sunderland site. This full-time permanent opportunity is working for one of our prestigious partners, a market-leading, global packaging business.
Previous exposure in the print or packaging industry would be advantageous, however full training will be given, therefore machine operation and a technical aptitude would be sufficient.
The primary role of a Converting Operative is competent and efficient operation of machinery in the Converting department to include Lamination, Slitting and Bagging, to produce goods as required in line with the production plan. Key responsibilities include maximising productivity, minimising downtime, and waste, and ensuring goods are produced to a high standard of quality, compliant with the customer's specification.
You will be expected to commit to a continental shift, working 4 days on, 4 day off 6am-6pm and 6pm-6am.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
1. Reporting of any limiting factors to conversion manager and shift supervisor and recording details on the daily production log.
2. Operation of the Converting machinery (slitter, laminator).
3. Manual handling and manoeuvring of reels; use of lifting and handling equipment; loading parent reels on to the unwind unit and unloading finished goods from the rewind section.
4. Monitoring work in progress reels throughout production for flagged material/removing affected material and re-splicing in accordance with customers' requirements.
5. Frequent and thorough monitoring throughout production/ensuring all required checks are carried out (glue weights, slitting tolerances) to ensure that all work produced is of highest possible standard.
6. Quarantining suspect/poor quality product and completing appropriate paperwork.
7. Conducting weekly machine safety checks and recording outcome on relevant documentation.
8. Conduct weekly cleaning and inspection checks.
9. Accurately inputting production data into the workstation PC. Ensuring that all shift time is accounted for using appropriate waste and downtime codes.
10. Complying with line clearance procedures during job changeovers.
11. Recording of relevant information; completion of paperwork and labels with accuracy; maintaining traceability throughout process.
