Hays Accountancy & Finance is partnering with a thriving conveyancing and legal firm in Cheltenham. They seek a part-time Legal Cashier to join their finance team following the retirement of a long-standing member. The role will involve assisting the Accounts Manager with transactional finance tasks while demonstrating a strong understanding of the legal sector and compliance regulations.
Work hours are Monday to Friday, 9 am to 1 pm or 2 pm, with a 30-minute lunch break. The salary range is £24,000 to £29,000.
This position requires on-site presence. There may be a need to work up to 5-6 hours on Mondays and Fridays, which tend to be busier days as per request.
Your new role
As a Legal Cashier, you will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:
* Financial transaction processing: Provide accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, ensuring compliance with Solicitor's Accounts Rules.
* Banking operations: Perform daily banking tasks, including bank reconciliations and processing client and office accounting transactions.
* Billing and payments: Process client bills, produce nominal cheque requests, and manage automatic and manual payment runs via BACS/TT and cheque.
* Month-end procedures: Assist in month-end processes, including processing travel and other expenses and conducting money laundering checks as required.
* Client and staff inquiries: Handle inquiries from fee earners, staff members, and clients, addressing their financial concerns and payments.
* Petty cash management: Administer and reconcile petty cash.
* Financial reporting: Prepare ad-hoc financial reports as needed.
What you’ll need to succeed
* To have previous experience in a similar role, whilst ensuring strong attention to detail and accuracy
* To have worked within a legal-sector team in a previous role
* The ability to problem solve and demonstrate analytical skills
* Previous experience using MS packages such as, Excel, Word, Outlook
* Experience with Accounting/Financial software, such as Sage or Xero
