Senior Design Engineer (Automotive)
Our client is a highly recognised motorcycle brand with real heritage in the UK and internationally. As the oldest motorcycle brand in continuous production, we are seeking a Senior Design Engineer where, as part of the Global Technical Organisation and reporting to the Lead Engineer, you will be involved working from concept stage through to the start of production.
You will work with established cross-functional teams in Industrial Design, Product Development and Genuine Motorcycle Accessories but predominantly support the global Vehicle Development Engineering Team to ensure that product projects are delivered accurately, meeting the requirements from all departments.
Experience from the automotive and/or motorcycle sector is required.
Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Design systems and components for new and updated accessory projects, considering function, cost, manufacture, assembly and quality.
2. Produce good quality 3D CAD models using Creo.
3. Produce good quality 2D engineering drawings, to ASME Y14.5.
4. Follow and help maintain design, operational and quality procedures.
5. Produce supporting documentation for designs, as required and present these designs in cross-functional team reviews.
6. Design components and systems to comply with regulatory requirements & RE internal test procedures where needed.
7. Liaise with internal departments such as Sourcing, Manufacturing, Quality and Assembly.
8. Liaise with outside suppliers.
9. Manage their own time and workload effectively.
10. Create and manage timing plans for their areas of responsibility.
11. Work with CAD Designers or contractors allocated to help with creating CAD models.
12. Support testing department with the fixturing & testing of components & motorcycles.
As a Senior Design Engineer, your role will involve working with cross-functional teams in Industrial Design, Strategic Sourcing, Quality Assurance and OE Product Development. At the outset you will be exposed to the design of retail customer facing products at various points in their product life cycle.
Overall success of your role will depend on the following measures but not limited to:
1. Mutually agreed project timing plan deadlines.
2. Successful drawing release completion.
Based from their offices in Leicester but with a hybrid working arrangement (following a successful completion of probation), candidates should have/be:
1. Qualified to degree level or similar (2:1 etc.).
2. Minimum 3 years' experience designing for manufacture and showing a good knowledge of processes, such as castings, forgings, sheet metal and injection mouldings.
3. Experience of creating and releasing 2D technical drawings to ASME Y14.5.
4. Understanding of geometric tolerances.
5. Good understanding of motorcycle chassis layout and construction.
6. Practical experience of vehicle maintenance and preparation is advantageous.
7. Experience of supporting and mentoring junior team members would be advantageous.
