Job summary
The Pharmacy Technician plays an important role, complementing clinical pharmacists, community pharmacists and other members of the Primary Care Network multi-disciplinary team. The role is part of an exciting programme of transformation to develop a new model of care which addresses our ambition to deliver person-centred, coordinated care across the Network.Pharmacy technicians core role responsibilities will cover clinical, and technical and administrative categories.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the role is to lead improvements to maximise safe, cost effective best practice in prescribing to improve the quality of patient care. The post holder will help patients to get the best from their medicines by switching medications to agreed and approved protocols, improving repeat prescribing processes in General Practice, including promotion of repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming to reduce wasted medicines.In addition, the post holder will be responsible for encouraging the development of better understanding of the principles of medicines optimisation throughout the practice teams and promoting good practice in line with therapeutic developments. This will involve assisting the PCN in achieving national requirements, NICE implementation and utilisation of medicines optimisation initiatives.
About us
Riverside Brigg is a purpose built practice in the centre of Brigg with a branch surgery located in Broughton. Riverside has merged with Trent View Medical Practice covering a further three sites. Five GP partners care for nearly 24,500 patients; we are a Training Practice, host medical students and nurses and also offer work placements. We are a dispensing practice with a pharmacy attached at both sites in Brigg and Broughton. The partners have specialist interests in Cardiology, Dermatology, Diabetes, Minor Surgery, Respiratory and Substance Misuse. The practice is an Accredited Research Unit. We employ four ANPs with interests in; paediatrics, palliative care and urgent care. The Urgent Care Team manages on the day demand offering emergency appointments and telephone advice. Practice nurses manage chronic disease within the surgery and are supported by eight HCAs. The two practice Pharmacist's manage prescribing and medicines optimisation. The clinical team is supported by a multi-professional administration team.

Job responsibilities
To identify patient’s pharmaceutical care needs non-compliance with medication, the need for medication aids and the need for verbal and/or written patient information regarding medication and refer to the PCN Pharmacist where appropriate.
To provide patients with advice on medicines/aids which meet their individual needs and will ensure patients feel informed about their medications enabling them to get the best use of their medicines.
To communicate with all levels of pharmacy staff and nursing and medical staff in dealing with prescription queries and discrepancies.
To supervise, teach or mentor the work of Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Support Workers, Apprentices and other less experienced staff where appropriate and allocating work as required.
To identify and pursue personal training and development needs with the objective to meet the knowledge and skills framework required for the post. To ensure that personal competencies are achieved and maintained. To work in a neat, orderly, safe and efficient manner. To work independently with minimal supervision within Standard Operating Procedures, practice polices and Medicines legislation.
To participate in data collections and audit of medicines management service as required by the Specialist Pharmacy Technician or other pharmacy staff.
To participate in rotas for early, late, weekend working and Bank Holidays.
