Summary
Responsible for inspecting, installing, cleaning, maintaining, and repairing the City's Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection system infrastructure.
Pay Grade: 65
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Make decisions on how to best maintain, repair or install utility items in the Water/Wastewater utility system.
2. Operate various types of equipment necessary in the daily repair, installation, and maintenance of the Water/Wastewater utility system.
3. Perform repairs on water mains, wastewater mains, service lines, service laterals, meters, meter boxes, cleanouts, manholes, valves, and fire hydrants.
4. Maintain the Water/Wastewater utility system.
5. Perform installation of new and replacement substandard utility items.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D)
2. No experience required
3. Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement or ability to obtain within 5 months of hire
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Skill to operate heavy and light equipment
2. Knowledge of Water Utility installation, maintenance, and repair
3. Knowledge of safety hazards and safety practices
4. Skill to use a variety of tools appropriate for the work assigned
Licenses and Certifications
1. Valid Class C Texas Driver's License
2. Class A Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain within 9 months of hire required
3. Must obtain TCEQ Class D Water Distribution License or Type I Wastewater Collection License within 18 months of hire
4. Must obtain TCEQ Class C Water Distribution License or a Type II Wastewater Collections License within 3 years of hire
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
The incumbent works in an outdoor environment and confined spaces; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
