This is an excellent opportunity to work in Argyll and Bute within the Council's Regulatory Services team in a very challenging yet beautiful part of Scotland. You will undertake the full range of environmental health enforcement, including public health and food safety, and work with the team who deal with many unique challenges including its rural geographical area, large number of private water supplies and a considerable food manufacturing and export market. There will be a requirement to manage your own district workload ensuring that environmental health standards are met and be able to travel across the area to undertake operational work. This is a full time, permanent 35 hours/week post within Dunoon although consideration would be given to the base being Helensburgh.
We will provide you with varied workload in all areas of environmental health, flexible working and hybrid home/office arrangements, a relocation package (where appropriate) and a salary of £40,914 to £44,272. We also pay annual membership to the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) and encourage Chartered membership of REHIS through continued professional development. Consideration will be given to applications from newly qualified Environmental Health Officers. Prospective applicants who do not hold the REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health should contact REHIS (contact@rehis.com) to confirm their eligibility to work as an EHO in Scotland, or the requirements in order to do so. Recognising the national shortage of Environmental Health Officers, the post may be filled as a Regulatory Services Officer (Salary £35,786 - £39,819). We would be interested to receive applications from graduates who are authorised food safety enforcement, officers holding the Higher Certificate in Food Hygiene/Food Control, the Higher Certificate in Food Practice, or those who are working as an environmental health enforcement officer in a local authority. If appointed at the RSO level, in addition to undertaking the work of this role, you will be supported to complete a development program to attain the post graduate REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health and to progress to an Environmental Health Officer. You will service which has a strong culture of growing our own and successful supporting staff to attain additional qualifications and promotion within the Council.
