Job Description:
We have a great opportunity for a Test Rig Designer to work within a strong engineering environment at Leonardo Helicopters. As a Test Rig Designer, you will be responsible for the design of test rigs required for the strength substantiation of Aircraft components from rig concept through to detail design. The test rigs to be designed will range from simple single actuator tests through to complex multi-actuator tests with challenging loading constraints.
The Structural Test Laboratory performs critical strength testing of new aircraft designs and modifications required for Civil and Military certification in order to demonstrate the strength and fatigue life of the aircraft structure and components.
This role is predominantly site based with some flexibility for hybrid working.
Please note that the JFF level is a level 5/6 (Engineering.)
1. Produce detailed rig design drawings in CATIA V5
2. Selection of suitable commercial hydraulic actuators and loading systems for use in rig design
3. Provide stress calculations of rig design to show adequate strength margins
4. Ensure personal working practices conform to the Health and Safety Policy in the Test Laboratory
5. Ideally experience in the use of CAD with experience in CATIA V5, or other similar programmes
6. Design experience, advantageous if within aerospace or similar
7. Able to demonstrate good communication, problem solving and decision making skills
8. IT literate with necessary PC skills.
9. Ability to understand Technical Drawings
10. Flexible attitude with willingness and ability to work in a team environment
11. Experience in the design of hydraulic systems/installations for test rigs
12. Experience in the definition and design of servo control systems for the control of structural tests
13. Knowledge of stressing of structural and mechanical test rigs
14. Experience of designing mechanical mechanisms and systems and their application to structural testing
