Learning Support Assistant (SEND Teaching Assistant with ASC focus) Poole, Dorset Full Time The school, located in the heart of Poole, Dorset, is known for its inclusive ethos and boasts a higher than average population of students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). It provides a supportive learning environment, and the appointed candidate will be joining a great staff team dedicated to fostering student progress and well-being. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Learning Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support for students with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and to contribute effectively to our school’s SEND department. The ideal candidate will work under the guidance of our supportive Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCO) and collaborate with the school team to deliver effective assistance to our SEND pupils. Responsibilities - Provide tailored 1:1 support to pupils with ASC, facilitating their access to the curriculum and promoting their independence. - Collaborate with teachers and the SENDCO to plan and implement Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) for students with additional needs. - Employ a variety of strategies and interventions aimed at supporting students’ learning, social integration, and emotional development. - Monitor and record student progress, sharing observations with the SENDCO to inform future planning and support. - Assist with the adaptation of materials and classroom environment to meet the needs of students with SEND. - Support students in both classroom settings and alternative learning environments (e.g., sensory rooms, outdoor learning spaces). - Engage with families and other professionals to foster a holistic approach to each student's development. - Contribute to the school's ethos of inclusivity and participate actively in training and staff development opportunities. Qualifications and Skills: - Previous experience in a similar role, particularly working with students with ASC. - A good understanding of the educational, social, and developmental needs of children with special needs. - The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient and empathetic approach. - Relevant qualifications in education or special educational needs are desirable. - A commitment to ongoing professional development.
