This Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Advisor will report to the Lead SHE Advisor and will work within UKPN Services, SHE based in our Bury St Edmunds office. You will be a permanent employee.
This role does not offer hybrid working as it will require travelling to multiple sites across our network.
You will attract a salary of £61,723 plus car and a bonus of 3%.

Job Purpose:
You will give competent health, safety and sustainability advice to advisors, Managers, staff, contractors, clients and the general public to promote the requirements of the health and safety management system.
Principal Accountabilities:
* Provide Health, Safety, Sustainability and Environmental advice to other advisors, managers, employees, contractors and the general public. Enhance the UK Power Networks Services 'safety relationship' with our Clients to maintain the primary electrical infrastructure across the Services business.
* Contribute to the review of existing and development of new procedures and communicate relevant changes to those affected as produced by the Central SHE Team.
* Interpret SHE Central SHE procedures and monitor to ensure implementation and application within the directorate. This will also include any procedures guided by the client.
* Monitor compliance with SHE procedures and legal and moral obligations.
* Participate in Stay Safe, Health, Safety & Environment Committee (HESEC), Risk Management, Client SHE Forums or specific committees and Safety Action Teams.
* Work with the management team to implement realistic short/long-term goals, advise on priorities, document the Directorate SHE Strategy/Action Plan and provide ongoing monitoring of performance.
* Provide a monitoring function to ensure that contractors engaged and services provided exceed our expectations for SHE.
* Engage and consult with Union Safety Representatives and Non Union Safety Representatives including participation at HESECs and Safety Action Teams and other relevant forums.
* Participate in and co-ordinate compliance audits of legislative requirements and new amended SHE procedures following Business Systems procedures and external auditors. Agrees and communicates actions required to rectify non-conformances.
* Help with the development to provide appropriate SHE training and communication materials relating to new procedures for implementation/communication to employees and contractors.
* Help deliver SHE specific training and awareness courses including induction course at the training schools and occupational health/wellbeing promotion.
* Support the SHE incident investigation process by participating in investigations.
* Review method statements, providing guidance on SHE matters.
* Undertake regular random inspections/audits (Behavioural Exchanges) to monitor performance of field teams and identify issues requiring improvements and good performance. Be a mentor to the business conducting inspections/audits and provide support.
* Together with the Operational Assurance Team help monitor compliance with safe systems of work and supporting the Worker Accreditation Scheme.
* Monitor workplace facilities to ensure they are aligned with company facilities management procedures and consistent with environmental requirements.
* Monitor the provision and maintenance of vehicles and more general transport arrangements.
* Monitor and champion SHE management in the business.
* Provide SHE reports to managers.
Qualifications:
* Hold, or work towards the National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Certificate.
* Hold, or work towards, an IOSH in Managing Your Environmental Responsibilities.
* Have multiple work experience which covers the main activities undertaken by staff and contractors working in the UK Power Networks Services Directorate and ideally have or previously have operational competencies.
Required to have a good understanding of CDM roles and responsibilities set within the CDM 2015 Regulations.
* Flexible in your approach to work and be able to prioritise as directed by SHE Lead Advisor.
* Have experience undertaking safety inspections or audits.
* Can demonstrate experience as a team player.
* Build relationships within a team and with other staff and clients within the business.
* Can work with IT software packages such as Microsoft Office.
* Hold a valid UK driving licence.
* Attain and retain multiple MOD, airside and rail access passes and licences.
Nature and Scope:
* You will give SHE advice at Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, Stansted Airport, London City Airport, Luton Airport and High Speed 1 (HS1), and also be able to work across other areas of the business, in delivering our H&S Policy requirements. In addition to this you will advise the business sectors to achieve coordinated Health, Safety and Environmental improvements.
* You will represent us at operational and senior management level with external partners and provide cover for colleagues within the Services SHE Team.
* The job requires someone with experience of SHE. You will need to be flexible when resolving issues.
