Job summary
Due to the expansion of our team we are looking for an experienced Practice Nurse to work with us at our friendly surgery. We are looking for a candidate full of enthusiasm to join our nursing team of 3 Practice Nurses, a Health Care Support Worker and Phlebotomist. The role will be varied and cover all aspects of Practice Nursing including chronic disease management however, applicants looking for a role doing specific areas of practice nursing welcome.
We offer a competitive rate of pay linked to qualifications and experience. Hours negotiable to suit the applicant and needs of the practice (full or part time).
Main duties of the job
1. To assist with chronic disease management
2. To provide a holistic nursing service to all patients attending the surgery
3. To deliver a range of services to agreed practice guidelines/protocols
4. To assess patients physical, psychological and social needs
5. To deliver health promotion activities to the practice population travel health, sexual health and immunisation
6. To manage minor trauma, acute and chronic wounds.
7. To help maintain the disease registers in line with the local and national guidelines
8. To provide lifestyle advice and screening to aid in the prevention of possible future illnesses

9. Chronic disease reviews
10. Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
11. Cytology
12. Wound care
13. Removal of Sutures
14. New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis
15. ECGs
16. Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
17. Venepuncture
18. Hypertension management
19. Ear syringing
20. Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations
21. Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
22. Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
23. Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
24. Providing contraceptive advice/pill checks.
25. Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nursing staff or GPs as appropriate
26. Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
27. On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
28. Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
