Contract: Monday -Friday 8:30pm – 3:30pm

Masterclass are seeking a behavioural support assistant for a school who specialise in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. They are committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to join their team to support the learning and well-being of their students.
Job Description:
As an SEMH behavioural support assistant, you will play a key role in providing targeted support and guidance to students with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. Working closely with teachers and other professionals, you will help create a supportive and nurturing learning environment where students feel safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to access the curriculum and participate in learning activities.
* Support the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans (BSPs)
* Foster positive relationships with students, building trust and rapport to help them develop social skills, emotional resilience, and self-confidence.
* Assist with the development and delivery of tailored interventions and support strategies to address behaviour, emotional regulation, and mental health concerns.
* Help students to manage their emotions and behaviour in the classroom and other settings, providing guidance, de-escalation techniques, and positive reinforcement as needed.
* Promote a culture of respect, understanding, and inclusivity within the school community, challenging stigma and discrimination related to mental health and SEMH needs.
* Support students during transitions between activities, classes, and environments, providing reassurance and encouragement to help them feel safe and supported.
Requirements:
* Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, preferably in an educational or similar setting, however this isn’t essential.
* Understanding of SEMH conditions, behaviours, and interventions, with a compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting students' well-being.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
* Ability to remain calm under pressure, respond sensitively to challenging behaviours, and adapt support strategies to meet individual needs.

Must have:

* A DBS on the Updates Service, or be willing to obtain one

* Holds GCSE’S in Maths & English grade A*-C 4-9 or equivalent
