About the role
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to lead Swanage Railway into its next chapter of growth and success. This role requires a leader who can inspire and motivate staff and volunteers, drive cultural change, enhance commercial and financial performance, and contribute to the railway's business plan.
Key Responsibilities
* Strategic Leadership: Develop a long-term vision to set a clear direction for the future of Swanage Railway.
* Leadership and Management: Unify departments, set a clear vision, foster a collaborative culture, and lead by example.
* Driving Cultural Change: Implement strategies to embrace change, innovation, and continuous improvement.
* Ensuring Compliance: Maintain transparency, accountability, and high ethical standards.
* Volunteer Management: Engage and motivate volunteers, address recruitment and retention challenges, and create a supportive environment.
* Operational Continuity and Improvement: Manage the existing team, ensure safe and efficient operations, and oversee day-to-day activities.
* Commercial and Financial Performance: Enhance revenue, manage budgets, secure funding for capital projects, and develop revenue generation strategies.
* Destination and Visitor Experience: Promote Swanage Railway as a tourist attraction, improve facilities and services, and enhance the visitor experience.
* Strategic Planning and Execution: Set goals, balance immediate needs with long-term objectives, and develop a long-term vision.
* Community Engagement and Representation: Build relationships with stakeholders, represent Swanage Railway, and engage with the Purbeck Community Rail Partnership.
* Educational and Charitable Objectives: Enhance educational offerings, develop partnerships with local schools, and secure funding for educational projects.
Requirements
* Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a heritage, tourism, or volunteer-led organisation.
* Strong track record of managing staff and volunteers effectively.
* Demonstrated ability to drive cultural change within an organisation.
* Experience in enhancing commercial and financial performance, including revenue generation and securing funding for capital projects.
* Strong understanding of governance standards and compliance requirements.
