At KCS the primary role of the Business Analyst is to analyse, capture and define product requirements in accordance with business priorities. The Business Analyst takes responsibility for both the scope and success criteria of new features that have been identified. New features could be market, customer, or project driven – with the Business Analyst working closely with the relevant stakeholders in each case. Collaborative relationships will exist with the Product Owner and development teams to ensure that the requirements vision is engineered correctly, with Business Analyst approval.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborates with relevant Business Stakeholders to understand vision, business objectives and team/departmental priorities
2. Elicits business requirements using various techniques in order to ascertain what a market or customer needs are
3. Evaluates information received in terms of needs in order to understand and distinguish must haves versus nice to haves
4. Overlays key requirements with current system processes and workflows to understand functional gaps
5. Documents requirements following standard processes and procedures (workflow and data diagrams, conditions, flow of events, exception criteria, acceptance criteria, expected outcomes) in such a format that development teams can easily understand the ask
6. Works with the Product Owner and Development Teams to decompose and refine an appropriate solution, while assessing effort estimates for the proposal
7. Validates and achieves sign-off on scoping with stakeholders before requirements are prioritised within the product backlog
8. Communicates time and effort estimates to the Project Manager / Customer Stakeholder
9. Participates in team ceremonies; acting as the subject matter expert and go to person for these requirements
10. Acts as a liaison between the customer/market/business and the development teams; ensuring that any questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner ensuring that team progress is not hindered
11. Attends sprint reviews to monitor progress of development; ensuring that the team stay on track and do not deviate from the agreed set of requirements
12. Completes a final review of the development against the requirements and gives approval for release
13. Facilitates UAT workshops by defining UAT criteria, transferring knowledge to the end user while tracking the success of the UAT
14. Achieves customer/business sign off on the delivered features
15. Works with the Technical Authors to ensure that appropriate product documentation is captured, detailing how the new features are configured and operate on the system
16. Hands over the development to the Support Team and wider business by providing appropriate documentation and/or training
Experience & Knowledge:
17. Experience in working with different business partners and customer stakeholders, of varying seniority levels, to understand business needs as well as the commercial benefits any solution will bring to all parties
18. Experience and knowledge of ERP products for both SME and Enterprise level customers
19. Knowledge of the rental industry and relevant market verticals eg) Construction and events
20. Experience in working with Agile delivery and business teams (e.g. Scrum or Kanban etc.)
21. Experience in the decomposition of requirements (Initiative to Epic to Story), story pointing, backlog refinement and sprint ceremonies
