In regards to the location of the role, you will initially be based at the Teddington site. However, the Company is planning to permanently relocate its National Laboratories, Teddington operations to The Priestley Centre, Surrey Research Park, Guildford around Spring 2025. Job Description
LGC provides a range of measurement products and services which underpin the safety, health and security of the public, including reference materials and proficiency testing, genomics solutions, services and instrumentation, and expert sample analysis and interpretation. Our customers are across a number of end markets including Government, Academia Pharmaceuticals, Agricultural Biotechnology, Food, Environment.
The Protein Mass Spectrometry team delivers high quality measurement research projects to meet current and future analytical challenges as part of the LGC’s international role as the UK’s .
The job holder will contribute to the development and validation of analytical methods to deliver NML measurement research programmes for government as well as to support private sector R&D contract commitments within the scope of protein analysis. They will be required to use advanced instrumental techniques and to employ a variety of sample preparation techniques as required.
The successful candidate will have experience in protein structural characterisation by mass spectrometry. Training as appropriate will be provided on traceability of measurements to the System of International Units and on the instruments required for the delivery of the projects. Key Responsibilities
1. Independent day-to-day planning and delivery of challenging research and development work to quality, time and budget
2. Delivery of proteins and peptides metrology projects with main focus on protein structural characterisation
3. Publication and dissemination of scientific developments and achievements.
4. Provision of support with the formulation of R&D commercial contracts
5. Build relationships with external stakeholders/collaborators, develop and extend metrology networks to underpin the UK national measurement system
6. Delivery of ad-hoc research commercial projects and reporting results
Qualifications
7. PhD or equivalent experience from industry or academic or clinical research
8. Extensive knowledge of protein structure and dynamics
9. Hand-on experience with HDX-MS, ion mobility mass spectrometry, native MS, CIU and crosslinking for protein structural analysis
10. Experience in the use of sample preparation approaches and hyphenated mass spectrometry for protein quantification is desirable
11. Troubleshooting and method development
12. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and software for mass spectrometry data analysis
13. Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation related to protein mass spectrometry
14. Good presentation skills, both oral and written
15. Experience of planning long and short-term research projects, working within deadlines and reporting
