JOB SUMMARY
The Skill Builder position is part of the ROME Peer Bridging Program. This position provides opportunities to work with children diagnosed with behavioral health-related functional limitations to receive services in their own home or community. Skill Builders will help create an environment where managed care plans, service providers, plan members, and families help participants prevent and manage these behavioral health-related functions. The program focuses on four core areas: social and interpersonal skills, daily living skills, and intervention implementation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintain own personal wellness.
2. Initiate and maintain regular communications/meetings with referred individuals nearing discharge from local area hospitals. Aid referred individuals that are granted access to visit certain locations within the community that are meaningful to him/her.
3. Assist referred individuals post-discharge to identify and engage in a range of community-based support groups/efforts.
4. Travel to numerous locations to engage members or to support the recovery of the individuals that we work with.
5. Interpret requests and help implement action, as well as decide whether the project coordinator/directors should be notified of important or emergency matters, as needed. In absence of their supervisor, ensure that requests for action or information are relayed to the appropriate staff member.
6. Handle a wide variety of situations and conflicts involving daily interactions with peers. This includes hosting meetings, coordinating activities, and resolving conflicts.
7. Facilitate weekly peer support group meetings in the hospital and/or community.
8. Attend trainings as required and assigned by supervisor.
9. Prepare and maintain detailed written records of activities to meet documentation and reporting requirements for Recovery Options projects.
10. Report to and meet with supervisor on a regular basis. Attend trainings as required and assigned by supervisor.

TECHNOLOGY, EQUIPMENT OR TOOLS:
Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Evidence of skills demonstrated by the ability to perform all the basic functions within each program; including but not limited to maintaining a calendar, sending e-mail, creating letters, as well as the ability to create and edit databases and spreadsheets.
General office equipment is used including fax machine, computer, and phone system.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Maintains strict visual contact with work up to 100% of the time. May occasionally lift to 35 lbs. without mechanical assistance. Work involves sitting, driving, and ambulating from task to task. Position requires frequent walking including stairs.
The noise level in the work environment is usually light.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
* High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
* Completion of a peer advocacy training program or related certification is preferred. Academy of Peer Services Certification must be completed within the employee's first 6 months in this position if the employee is not currently certified.
* Must have a valid Class D Driver License, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance.
* Must have had active participation in mental health self-help activities, peer support or peer advocacy programs, or recipient-run organizations or similar experiences or programs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
* Must possess advocacy skills; attention to detail; effective communication, writing, and documentation skills.
* Ability to take direction and follow through on assignments both independently and with limited supervision.
* Must have an understanding and working knowledge of confidentiality laws regarding recipient’s records and personal/health information.
* Ability to demonstrate understanding of community services.
* Must be proficient in MS Word/Excel, internet, and e-mail.
