Care Assistant for a young person P/T @ £13.09/hr in Wooler - FTE - £25.5k - Wooler - NE71
JOB PURPOSE:
To provide support for 14 hours per week. To work with a 20 year old young woman to enable her to access community and leisure activities and to enable independence.
We are currently looking to recruit a Support Worker to provide support for a 20 year old young woman. She has a diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder (FASD) and Alcohol related Neurodevelopmental Disorder (ARND) which means she requires support with most aspects of everyday life to ensure her safety and maintain her independence. The purpose of your role will be to enable her independence, support her to have time away from family taking part in activities she enjoys. You will mostly support out in the community but there will be times you will support at home.
She is a friendly young woman and enjoys being around people. We are looking for someone who has a good sense of humour, likes to have a laugh and has a friendly calming personality.
We would like someone who can bond with this young woman around her interests, of which music is a big one; K-pop is a favourite type of music, so it would be great if you had an awareness of this or an interest in music in general. She also enjoys going to the cinema and attending theatre.
You will support with activities such as going for walks in the local area, going out to a café or out for a pub lunch.
Due to her diagnosis, processing information and communication can be difficult, so you will need to be calm and patient and be happy to repeat information to ensure it is understood. Her condition means that her behavior can be unpredictable, and she can stop engaging without specific triggers. You will get to know her and how best to meet her needs once a relationship is built up.
Due to the location of the role, we are looking for a driver; however, you don’t need your own car. If you do have your own car and use it for your role, fuel expenses will be reimbursed.
We would also like our PA to be able to suggest things to do out in the community, so you should be willing to be proactive in finding various activities to take part in.
