As the Health, Safety, Environment and Compliance Officer, you’ll be responsible for developing and overseeing control systems to prevent and manage violations of legislative guidelines and internal policies. You’ll develop and manage Health, Safety, Environmental and Compliance functions to ensure we have the right skills, processes, materials, information and procedures to consistently comply with both legislative and customer requirements, and various ISO standards.
You will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of health, safety, environment, and compliance requirements for the company, ensuring the Company meets its compliance obligations in respect of areas of Health & Safety, GDPR, ISO, Environmental and general process standards required in a logistics business.
Responsibilities and duties include (but are not exclusive to):
* Work with Managers to review and maintain health and safety management systems ensuring compliance with all statutory legislation and regulations and develop where applicable.
* Develop, maintain and continuously improve H&S Procedures.
* Log and conduct incident and accident investigations when required to prevent a reoccurrence and ensure compliance.
* Provide insight to operational colleagues to reduce the likelihood and severity of workplace harm.
* Stop any unsafe systems of work or poor working practices where there is deemed to be a risk.
* Conduct internal and external site audits/inspections to ensure compliance to process, including customer sites.
* Maintain company compliance for Health and Safety and personnel checks.
* Provide H&S support to the Management Team, develop and support training to employees and managers, including training needs analysis on related competencies and Induction training for New Starters.
* Ensure our H&S Management System is fully utilized and data maintained.
* Create and review risk assessments and method statements.
* Review, develop and implement all aspects of our H&S and Environmental Policies.
* Review and maintain the annual environmental plan to ensure all activities stay on track within a working Environmental Management System that you will keep up to date.
* Identify potential environmental risk within the business and provide recommendations to management.
* Maintain and review accreditations and systems.
* Manage and carry out internal ISO audits ensuring business compliance and full communication with external auditor at annual audits.
* Manage the Company Quality Management System.
* Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming legislation.
* Work proactively with managers and key staff to establish and maintain improvements.
* Manage the conduction of corporate risk assessments, communicating and effecting authorized corrective action recommendations and ensuring all appropriate files, records, licenses and policies are kept up to date.
* Chair regular meetings and deliver toolbox talks with the desire to continually improve these areas for the company.
* Provide advice and support to all departments in these areas.
Skills and Attributes Required:
* A minimum of 2 years' experience in Health & Safety.
* The ability to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of current Health & Safety standards and requirements.
* Attained or working towards a minimum of NEBOSH General Certificate level.
* Knowledge of current industry standards for sustainability.
* Experience conducting ISO Audits.
* Ability to communicate with employees and clients at all levels of the business.
* A patient but persistent approach, prepared to chase down responses and information from both internal and external customers and suppliers in a professional manner.
* Excellent communication skills coupled with the confidence required to inform and educate employees.
* Ability to problem solve in a collaborative way.
* Strong leadership and influencing skills and the ability to form strong effective relationships.
* The ability to constructively challenge safety behaviors, management thinking and current procedures and processes.
* Excellent interpersonal, presentation and IT skills.
* Be able to work independently as the only Health & Safety employee on site with a very “can do” attitude to support in other areas.
