Head of Training and Education - Nuclear Skills
The Head of Training and Education – Nuclear Skills at Lakes College is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the operational management, delivery, and compliance of the Sellafield Apprenticeship contract, specifically for Level 2 (L2) and Level 3 (L3) Apprenticeship programs. This position plays a critical part in ensuring that these training programs, which focus on nuclear skills, are delivered effectively and meet all contractual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), while maintaining high standards of education and operational efficiency.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Curriculum & Apprenticeships STEM and other senior leadership team members to drive and implement the college’s strategic objectives. This includes taking responsibility for the effective delivery of nuclear-specific apprenticeship programs, short courses, and additionalities as outlined in the contract with Sellafield. The role requires a leader who is experienced in managing training programs within the nuclear industry and who can work collaboratively across various departments to ensure that all educational initiatives are successfully executed.
As the Head of Training and Education, this position is responsible for the operational management of the contract, ensuring that educational programs meet industry standards and are delivered in a safe, secure, and compliant manner. This includes managing the operational team, supporting the development of curriculum design and delivery, and overseeing the assessment and evaluation of learner progress. The role also includes ensuring that all learner records are accurately maintained in the college’s systems, and that monthly performance reports are produced for internal and external stakeholders.
The Head of Training and Education will be expected to build strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders, particularly Sellafield, and to act as the representative for Lakes College at relevant meetings and customer events. This includes ensuring that all learner and staff needs are met, providing technical advice, and identifying opportunities for future partnerships and growth. As part of the leadership team, the role involves contributing to the overall business strategy, with a focus on delivering high-quality, impactful education that meets the evolving needs of the nuclear sector.
The role also includes responsibility for maintaining the Health, Safety, and Welfare of all staff, learners, and visitors. This will involve ensuring that the college’s policies, procedures, and risk assessments are adhered to at all times. Furthermore, the Head of Training and Education will take responsibility for the security of the training facilities and will ensure compliance with the site-specific requirements of Sellafield and other relevant organizations.
Another key aspect of the role is the management of the budget associated with the Sellafield contract, ensuring financial targets are met while maintaining the highest standards of delivery. The individual will also monitor learner progress and manage any issues arising from contract delivery, escalating them as necessary to ensure smooth operations.
In addition to the core responsibilities, the Head of Training and Education will be required to support the college’s mission and values, ensuring that the principles of equality, diversity, and sustainability are embedded in all aspects of the training and education provided. This includes contributing to the college’s safeguarding policies and participating in the college’s promotional and marketing activities.
