The American Express Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team is a strategic function that works to enhance and protect the American Express brand through public relations, social media and content development, colleague communications and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The Director, Colleague Communications will drive the internal communications strategy and activities of American Express’ International Card Services (ICS) business. ICS is one of the company’s fastest-growing operating segments and is responsible for American Express’ card issuing activities outside of the U.S., with a significant presence across Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America and Canada. The business works closely with other divisions of American Express, including teams responsible for growing merchant acceptance of American Express payment products around the world, developing customer-facing digital capabilities, and managing risk.
The person in this role will develop and execute colleague communications strategies for the ICS business and its leaders to build understanding of the business’ priorities and strategy. They will be responsible for developing content ranging from newsletters, memos, internal intranet content and presentations, as well as supporting the planning and execution of senior leader town halls, internal forums and other colleague engagement events. They will collaborate closely with teams in the Colleague Experience Group (HR), legal, and finance functions, as well members of the global CA&C team to bring to life enterprise-wide campaigns and initiatives.
This role reports to the Vice President, International Communications, and is based in London.
How will you make an impact in this role?
1. Develop and execute colleague communications activities designed to drive engagement and foster connection to the vision and strategy of senior leaders.
2. Devise creative ways to enhance the look and feel of written content, multimedia and in-person events.
3. Think strategically about how to best leverage available communications channels, including colleague intranet sites, Slack, and email, to drive content engagement.
4. Create engaging follow-up content and recaps from colleague events.
5. Support the rollout of corporate and global programs and initiatives, including reward and recognition campaigns, leadership development activities and innovation awards.
6. Partner with CA&C colleagues across geographies to drive coordination and consistency in global communications.
Minimum Qualifications
7. Minimum 8 years of experience in communications or related role
8. Strong strategic thinker able to effectively shape storytelling and channel management strategies.
9. Ambitious self-starter who is passionate about writing, storytelling, and crafting compelling and effective communications that can engage broad audiences.
10. Superior writing and editing skills.
11. Ability to translate business terminology into compelling, accessible written communication.
12. Strong project management skills and ability to execute against multiple deadlines.
13. Exceptional collaboration skills with an ability to work across teams and comfort with interacting with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
14. Familiarity with PowerPoint, OneDrive, and other software tools.
Preferred Qualifications
15. Experience in graphic design and multimedia content creation is a plus.
16. Background in journalism, public relations, mass communications.
17. Experience in employee engagement, organizational communications, internal and external communications for global organizations is desired.

18. This position Hybrid role (3 days a week in the office) based in London.
